Canaccord Genuity Morning Coffee on the Solar Sector: Ever seen politicians throw fisticuffs?

It's worse than basketball fights!! China's Commerce Ministry stated on Monday that the U.S. must cut support for six government-backed renewable energy programs or face unspecified penalties. The U.S. measures supporting wind, solar and hydroelectric energy programs in several U.S. states, including Massachusetts, Ohio and New Jersey, present a barrier to Chinese exports, the ministry said in a statement on its website. China is calling on the U.S. to cancel practices not in line with WTO rules and to "give Chinese renewable energy products fair treatment." The U.S. has made moves of its own against Chinese-made clean-energy equipment, with the U.S. Commerce Department announcing a number of provisional and final duties against imports over the past six months. Reuters noted that this announcement, the final ruling in an investigation launched in November, comes as Beijing and Washington wrangle over duties on solar and wind energy products and U.S. presidential candidates trade barbs over renewable energy subsidies.

Stocks of note include: First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR), JinkoSolar Holding (NYSE: JKS),
ReneSola (NYSE: SOL), Suntech Power (NYSE: STP), Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL), and
Yingli Green Energy (NYSE: YGE)
