Solar Stocks Pop as German PV Installations Rip 300% in Q1 Ahead of Subsidy Cuts (TAN)

Stocks in the Solar sector are up Monday on a couple of news bits. First, earlier reports suggest CNOOC may make a bid for Canadian Solar (Nasdaq: CSIQ). Canadian Solar currently carries a market cap of about $140 million.

Secondly, data from Financial Times Deutschland (FTD) showed German solar installations more than tripled in the first quarter as firms looked to beat expected solar subsidy cuts. FTD noted about 1.9-gigawatts of panels were installed from January through March 2012, increasing 270 percent from 513-megawatts installed in the same period last year.

Subsidy cuts were expected to begin April 1st.
