According to reports out Friday, the Rambo of mobile device apps might be making its way further into China.
Rovio Entertainment, the creator of the still-popular "Angry Birds," is in talks with Chinese Internet companies like Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), Renren (NYSE: RENN) and Sohu.com's (Nasdaq: SOHU) Changyou.com (Nasdaq: CYOU) for further distribution into the burgeoning economy.
The company may already be working with Sina Corp. (Nasdaq: SINA), Tencent Holdings, and Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU).
Bloomberg noted the about 100 million downloads of "Angry Birds" have been already made on devices running operating systems like Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS and Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android.
Rovio's Asia SVP Henri Holm said the number of smartphone devices has grown exponentially, with staggering growth also expected in 2012.
Taking "Angry Birds" to China will allow better R&D into how to better monetize mobile ad-space, a good thing for Google, Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) and Facebook (Nasdaq: FB).
Data from China Internet Network Information Center (CINIC) has about 513 million Internet users in China through the end of 2011. Of total mobile users, only about 30 million to 50 million are smartphone subscribers.
