Credit Card Companies On Watch Amid Global Payments (GPN) Security Breach

Shares of Global Payments (NYSE: GPN) are halted down more than 9 percent Friday following reports from the WSJ the company has been hit with a security breach. Officials within the credit-card industry are reportedly investigating the data breach.

While shares of Visa (NYSE: V), MasterCard (NYSE: MA) and Heartland Payment (NYSE: HPY) initially ticked lower amid the rumor, these stocks have now bounced off session lows but still remain lower. Visa and MasterCard confirmed the breach and warned such an event can affect major credit cards, but also said the breach has not compromised their systems. Heartland has said the breach was in no way related to their systems.
