Goldman Sachs is maintaining its Buy rating and $45 price target on First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR) despite weaker-than-expected fourth quarter results.

The firm said the see a positive risk/reward for FSLR relative to solar peers, despite uncertain near-term path with few visible positive catalysts. Goldman notes shares are trading closer to their $26 estimate for the NPV of its 2012-2014 projects plus cash and also cited potential to achieve a longer-term cost profile meaningfully lower than China-based competitors.

The firm maintained FY12 EPS of $5.50 and lowered FY13 EPS from $6 to $5.50 and FY14 from $6.25 to $5.75.
