Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) has had great success with it's iPhone 4S, but one market it has failed to penetrate is mainland China.
But that's about to change. Earlier in December, reports had Apple getting three-year valid Radio Transmission Equipment Type Approval Certificate from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for the iPhone 4S.
Well, news today from China's "People's Daily Online" has the iPhone 4S now getting the China Compulsory Certification (3C) for electronic products on December 22nd, 2011. That was the final regulatory hurdle need to be overcome before Apple can offer the device in mainland China.
Apple hasn't directly pointed out that the device passing all the tests was the iPhone 4S, but it's model number -- A1431 -- is the same as the iPhone 4S.
"The People's Daily Online" said the device should be available before the start of Chinese New Year, which begins on January 23rd, 2012. Specific carriers weren't named, though Apple does business with China Unicom (NYSE: CHU) in Hong Kong. Landing a deal with China Mobile Limited (NYSE: CHL) and it's 630 million subs, would be a huge launch, but nothing firm has been said on that either.
Shares of Apple are 0.8 percent better into the close, capping a 7-day win streak.
