Apple's (AAPL) iPhone 4S Gets Closer to Accessing China's Massive User Base

Despite being a runaway hit in several global markets, one place that hasn't experienced the joy of Siri is China. But all that is about to change.
According to reports Monday, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) received a three-year valid Radio Transmission Equipment Type Approval Certificate from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for the iPhone 4S.
The certificate gets Apple one step closer to bringing the iPhone 4S to China. Reports state Apple must get network access license from the MIIT, which should come shortly.
China Unicom (NYSE: CHU), with about 170 million subscribers, is said to be prepping for release, which might come as soon as Christmas. Training for its employees is already complete, and it's just waiting for the nod to start selling. Pricing on the device is expected to be 4,999 yuan (about $785) without a contract.
The model submitted for testing was compatible with GSM, WCDMA, HSDPA / HSUPA, Bluetooth, and WAPI (WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure).
