Vitamin Shoppe (NYSE: VSI) and other vitamin-related stocks are seeing pressure Wednesday amid global news coverage that vitamins could actually be detrimental to your health.

Two studies published this week now have some questioning the usage of vitamins. The first study from Archives of Medicine linked certain vitamins to higher mortality in women over the age of 62. Another study in the Journal of the American Medical Association linked Vitamin E to higher prostate cancer risk in men.

In the Archives of Medicine study, the use of multivitamins, vitamin B6, folic acid, iron, magnesium, zinc and copper showed higher risk of death. The study showed that calcium decreased risk of death.

The Journal of the American Medical Association study showed men taking Vitamin E had 17 percent higher risk of developing prostate cancer.

Vitamin Shoppe is down 8 percent Wednesday.
