New Data Shows Plenty of Growth Left in U.S. Tablet Market (AMZN) (AAPL)

Want a media tablet or tablet PC? You're not alone.

According to new data from Harris Interactive (Nasdaq: HPOL), 15 percent of Americans now own a tablet device, up from just 8 percent in the same period one year ago.

Further data also suggests, of those Americans who don't own a tablet, 15 percent plan to purchase one in the next six months or less.

Crunching the numbers, that amounts to 46.05 million Americans who own a tablet, and another market of 46.05 million who are planning to purchase one.

Harris Interactive also noted about 40 percent of Americans read 11 or more books per year, while 19 percent read 21 or more annually. Curiously, data suggests, of those who own an e-reader or other tablet, 36 percent read 11 or more books per year, while 26 percent read 21 or more books annually.

Though the initial amount of those reading books electronically seems low, it appears tablet-owners are a more dedicated bunch, sifting out the outliers. This is good news for both tablet sales and e-Book sales, both of which Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is great at doing.

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) will obviously sell more as the next-generation of iPad emerges. Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM), Morotola (NYSE: MMI), Samsung, Acer, and others are also likely to see a little boost.
