Monster (MWW) Employment Index for September Hints at Stronger Jobs Growth

Ahead of nonfarm numbers Friday morning (expected out at 8:30am), Monster (NYSE: MWW) released it's Monster Employment Index (MEI) for the month of September.

Monster reports the MEI rose 7 percent in September from 138 to 148, continuing it's year-over-year positive trend from August.

About 75 percent, or 15 of 20, covered industries showed positive growth. Leading the way were Mining, Quarrying, Oil and Gas extraction at 47 percent and Information at 36 percent. Lagging for the month was Public Administration at a 29 percent drop, and Accommodation and Food Services at a 9 percent dip.

Demand for Personal Care and Service increased 54 percent, with Transportation and Material Moving coming in second at a 34 percent demand increase. Losing some ground was demand for Protective Service, down 28 percent, and Food Prep and Serving, at a 7 percent drop.

Cleveland led as the highest growth region, with a 35 percent gain, while Detroit was second at 30 percent. New York City continued leading as the lowest growth market with a 2 percent increase, while Los Angeles grew 7 percent, tied with Boston.
