AU Optronics (AUO) in Hot Water Again, This Time with H-P (HPQ)

August 24, 2011 9:12 AM EDT
Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) has filed a complaint against Taiwanese liquid crystal display maker AU Optronics (NYSE: AUO).

In a San Francisco federal court filing made on August 19th, Hewlett-Packard claims AU Optronics was conspiring to fix prices on thin-film transistor liquid crystal display panels, it's bread-and-butter business.

Hewlett-Packard, one of AU Optronics' largest clients, said the company was one among others which conspired to fix the prices of TFT-LCD panels, according to the filing.

The complaint follows a similar claim made in June 2010, when AU Optronics and six of it's executives were allegedly conspiring to fix prices on LCD flat-panel screens sold globally. That complaint said price-fixing supposedly ran from 2001 through 2006, and involved such big names as Dell (Nasdaq: DELL), Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), and HP, among others. The case is still continuing.

AU Optronics shares are 3.5 percent lower early Wednesday.
