Apple's (AAPL) A6 Now Scheduled to Be Released in Q2 of 2012

August 12, 2011 3:57 PM EDT
Gigaom reports Friday Apple’s (Nasdaq: AAPL) A6 processor will not be ready for public distribution until the second quarter of 2012 at the soonest.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, Ltd. (NYSE: TSM) is producing the A6 for Apple, and while Reutrers released a report in July noting the company had already begun trial production on the chip, most recent news begs to differ.

The new A6 will be made with Taiwan Semi’s new 28-nanometer process and 3D stacking technologies. Gigaom notes the 3D stacking technology will allow for layers to be vertically and horizontally integrated into one single circuit.

This news suggests Apple may not release another iPad this year and that it will be mid 2012 before the next one will be released.
