A Sprint (NYSE: S) iPhone seems increasing likely in the near future, according to analysts at Citadel Securities.
The firm doesn't believe Sprint would be opposed to the device's high subsidy, which is in-line with some of its 4G smartphones. In addition, they believe Apple would welcome increased disturbing to better compete with Android.
AT&T (NYSE: T) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ), Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) other U.S. carriers, would unlikely attempt to block Sprint from getting the iPhone, the firm believes. Also, Apple would be interested in preserving an unlimited data option for the iPhone and starting tomorrow Sprint will be the only national carrier that continues to offer a reasonably-priced unlimited mobile data plan.
While timing remains uncertain, a Sprint iPhone could arrive before year-end. "We see little reason for Apple to hold back," the firm said.
Since Sprint's smartphone service plans are lower-priced than comparable plans, a Sprint iPhone could be a strong seller the firm states.
Even without the iPhone, Citadel believes Sprint's churn rate will likely continue moving down as a high proportion of its subscribers that are "locked in" to their two-year service contracts for the next 12 months.
The firm maintains a Edge Positive on Sprint shares.
