PayPal Crosses 100M User Mark, Says No Wallets Needed by 2015 (EBAY)

eBay's (Nasdaq: EBAY) PayPal unit President, Scott Thompson, says that consumers won't need wallets by 2015.

On PayPal's blog, Thompson states the Company now has 100 million active accounts. Looking forward, Thompson contends that consumers are increasingly using alternative methods to make payments.

To that end, Thompson says that consumers will not need to carry a wallet, as digital payments will be accepted most everywhere by 2015.

Commenting on the prediction, Thompson stated: "How confident are we in achieving this goal? So confident that we've asked five Bay area employees to embrace a digital lifestyle and use only digital currency to pay for all of their purchases."

eBay saw some sharp upside this week, following an increase on the swipe-fee cap institutions can charge to 21 cents. Analysts were overall mixed on how this change would affect PayPal moving forward.

Shares of eBay are trading about 0.4 percent lower ahead of the bell today. Click here to be directed to Thompson's blog post.
