Notable Mergers and Acquisitions of the Day 06/08: (WLP) (R) (BJ)

  • WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) reports that it has entered into an agreement to acquire CareMore.

    Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, though Streetinsider.com reported earlier that the deal may be valued at $800 million.

    WellPoint expects the transaction to be neutral to earnings in 2012 and accretive in 2013 and beyond.

    Closing is expected at the end of FY11.

    CareMore is a senior focused health care delivery program that includes Medicare Advantage plans and clinics designed to deliver proactive, integrated, individualized health care in select California, Arizona and Nevada markets.

  • Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R) today announced it has acquired Bradford, England-based Hill Hire plc. The stock acquisition was completed on June 8, 2011 at a cash price of approximately £154 million or approximately $252 million.

    The acquisition is expected to add approximately £90 million or approximately $147 million in annual revenue to Ryder’s Global Fleet Management Solutions business segment.

  • Leonard Green & Partners and CVC Capital Partners have teamed up to make a joint bid for BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. (NYSE: BJ), the New York Post reported. A bid is expected to value the company at at least $2.8 billion.

    There were questions whether Leonard Green & Partners had the wherewithal to complete the deal alone, according to bankers.
