HTC Hitting Record Revenue Marks as Devices Continue to Outperform (AAPL) (MMI)

April 7, 2011 8:46 AM EDT
According to a report from China Economic News, Quietly Brilliant mobile device maker HTC is expected to hit NT$1 trillion ($34.5 billion) in revs during 2011.

Citing a forecast by institutional investors, the CEN article notes HTC has already surpassed NT$900 billion for the moment. HTC recently became the third publicly-traded company in Taiwan with a market cap of over NT$1 trillion, trailing behind Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (NYSE: TSM) and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (OTCBB: HNHPF).

The news isn't great for competitors Motorola Mobility (NYSE: MMI), Samsung, and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), amongst others. Early Thursday, Samsung gave weaker-than-expected guidance for first-quarter earnings expectations. Admittedly, the scope of Samsung's earnings stretches far beyond mobile devices based on its widely-diversified offerings, but mobile will surely be scrutinized being a solid portion of its overall balance sheet.

Note: 1 NT$ = about $0.0345 USD
