Wedbush on Entertainment: Software - January 2011 Video Game Sales Preview: Small Decline Expected

Wedbush analyst says, "We expect January U.S. retail video game console software sales data to be released by the NPD Group after the market close on Thursday, February 17...We forecast software sales of $530 million, down 11% compared to last year's $597 million, another month of negative growth....We expect another decline in January. We think that sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Kinect, and Just Dance 2 were front end loaded in November and December, and do not expect catalog sales to offset a very light release slate, negative momentum from December (down 8%), and weak software sales for Wii and the handhelds."

"We expect January sales to be led by new releases Electronic Arts' (Nasdaq: ERTS) Dead Space 2 (PS3, 360, PC) and Sony's Little Big Planet 2 (PS3), with continued solid sales of Activision Blizzard's (Nasdaq: ATVI) Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Just Dance 2...We expect hardware sales of 320,000 Wii units (down 31% year-over-year), 380,000 Xbox 360 units (up 14% y-o-y), and 240,000 PS3 units (down 13% y-o-y)."
