Michael Farr, managing director for Farr, Miller & Washigton LLC disclosed his firm's list for the top ten stock picks in 2011, which Farr owns personally and will stay in the firm's portfolio for the duration of the new year.
Among the standouts on the list is Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM), which Farr notes is starting to perform better in the last two months after lagging for much of 2010. Farr adds that the this is one of the last companies to boost a AAA-rated balance sheet.
Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) is another top pick for Farr this year after the stock slumped recently. The company is expected to initiate a dividend in 2011, while its reliance on international sales should benefit the company as the economy improves.
Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) is another big name that has underperformed in 2010 which Farr sees having a strong new year. Farr sees growth for the company coming from new products and the corporate PC upgrade cycle. Microsoft currently has more than $40 billion in cash on hand.
Other top picks from Farr include Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), Monsanto Co. (NYSE: MON), Staples Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLS), Lowe's Companies Inc. (NYSE: LOW), JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), CVS Caremark Corp. (NYSE: CVS) and Medtronic Inc. (NYSE: MDT)
