With the M&A frenzy in full gear, the rumor mill has been churning out tons of deal talk. Below are some highlights.

  • VeriSign (Nasdaq: VRSN) is a takeover target following the recent acquisition of McAfee by Intel, according to analysts at Jefferies. The firm also said Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) and Check Point Software (Nasdaq: CHKP) are possible targets.

  • Commenting on possible M&A action in the storage sector after the acquisition of 3Par, Oppenheimer analysts highlighted Brocade (Nasdaq: BRCD), Compellent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: CML), Commvault Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CVLT), Isilon Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: ISLN), among others.

  • Unsubstantiated takeover chatter surrounded Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE: TSN), United States Steel Corp. (NYSE: X), Cree Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE), and Silicon Labs (Nasdaq: SLAB) today.

  • Mr. Burry, the hedge fund manager made famous in Michael Lewis' "The Big Short" told Bloomberg he is long farmland and gold.
