August 6, 2010 2:15 PM EDT
It's rumor Friday. With much of the trading floor empty for a long weekend, rumor mongers are trying to have their way with certain stocks. Here is some chatter going around desks.

  • With something likely to be announced soon from Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) regarding its prop trading or private equity unit, the rumor mill was running rampant today. Today there was talk going around that the company could go private, maybe with the help of Warren Buffett.

  • American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG), the bailed-out insurer owned 60% by the government, is in talks with the U.S. for a complete exit. "We have commenced discussions with the U.S. government on the process and terms of a complete government exit,” CEO Benmosche said in a memo.

  • Hansen Natural (Nasdaq: HANS) reported a solid quarter, triggering renewed takeover talk in the stock. Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO) and Dr Pepper Snapple (NYSE: DPS) are potential suitors for the maker of "Monster" energy drink. HANS is up nearly 8 percent today.

  • Titanium Metals Corporation (NYSE: TIE) and Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq: RMBS) were the subject of unsubstantiated takeover chatter today.
