Rumors, gossip and scuttlebutt run amok on Wall Street every day. Here is a run-down of what trading desks are talking about today:

  • Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) and Citigroup (NYSE: C) are selling $788.5M in bonds backed by commercial mortgages as they try to revive the left-for-dead market, Bloomberg reported.

  • California Pizza Kitchen Inc. (Nasdaq: CPKI) jumped over 8 percent on renewed takeover speculation. In April 2010, CPKI said that in may pursue a possible sale among exploring other financial and strategic alternatives.

  • Peltz's Trian disclosed a new 6.6% stake in Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (NYSE: FDO) and noted he held talks with the CEO about improving sales per sq. foot, utilizing its capital structure and creating value.

  • Viacom (NYSE: VIA) (NYSE: VIA.b) founder and Chairman Sumner M. Redstone gave a job to an inexperienced party girl and gifted here 2,522 shares of Class B Viacom stock that she sold in March for just under $77,000. More of the crazy story at DailyBeast

  • Private-equity like hedge fund Blue Harbour Group disclosed a new 5.2% stake Jack in the Box Inc. (Nasdaq: JACK) and could shake things up at the burger joint.

  • Mosaic Co. (NYSE: MOS) is seeing interest today on renewed speculation BHP (NYSE: BHP) could target the company in a takeover. Shares are up 3.5 percent.

  • SLM Corp (NYSE: SLM), or Sallie Mae, is considering a possible breakup, according to reports from the New York Post.

  • In addition to Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS), Citigorup (NYSE: C) is moving traders around to comply with the Volcker Rule.

  • CNBC's Kate Kelly is reporting that the SEC is looking at trading in BP (NYSE: BP) shares between April 20 and late-June. Kelly said that to her understanding, the probe is informal.

  • Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) could discuss the new BlackBerry 6 at a special event on August 6, according to analysts at Kaufman Bros
