US Airline Sector Falling as Crude Oil Now Over $80 (DAL, LUV, AMR, more)

The US Airline sector is among one of the few groups moving lower this morning as crude oil has risen over the $80 level for the first time in at least a month. Crude oil is up 2.5% to around $81.32 today. Notably, oil has not closed above the $80 mark since mid-November.

Around the sector:
  • Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) down 3% to $11.04
  • Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) down 2.3% to $11.17
  • AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR) down 2.5% to $7.53
  • Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) down 1.5% to $17.65
  • UAL Corp. (Nasdaq: UAUA) down 1.4% to $12.73
  • US Airways (NYSE: LCC) down 2.3% to $4.73
The Claymore/NYSE Arca Airline ETF (NYSE: FAA) is down about 0.4% today. Note: this ETF is very thinly traded.
