Briefly, a Barron's article today names Devon Energy (NYSE: DVN) as appealing for a takeover by larger companies. Last week, ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) paid $31 billion to takeover XTO Energy (NYSE: XTO), and Devon Energy, along with EnCana (NYSE: ECA) displays similar characteristics. Both of the companies have hired on technicians that have a knowledge of fracturing shales with gas and liquid and also are familiar with horizontal drilling. Barron's says that the focus of bigger energy companies should be more on scale rather than technology.
