Shares of Electronic Arts Inc. (Nasdaq: ERTS) are higher today on resurfaced rumors Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) could be interested in acquiring the company. Shares of ERTS are up 4% on the rumors.
This rumor was around earlier in the year, but was mainly dismissed by analysts. Synergies are not entirely obvious. Microsoft of course owns gaming platform Xbox and has also made some plays into video game advertising. But to own a gaming powerhouse like EA? It makes sense, but it's not a complete home run.
Recent talk has speculated that Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) could look at Electronic Arts. Now that makes more sense.
