Google (GOOG) Android OS To Be Available On The Verizon (VZ) Network

The WSJ reported today that Motorola (NYSE: MOT) will be launching new Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) powered Android phones later this year on both T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless's (NYSE: VZ) networks. This should be a boon to Verizon who has been looking for the new, innovative product to compete with Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) popular iPhone which is on the AT&T (NYSE: T) network.

Additionally, Motorola is looking for a turnaround in the mobile market and is betting heavily on Android to help MOT regain its foothold in the cellphone industry.

T-Mobile USA will launch a touch-screen Motorola phone with a slide-out keyboard. The software, built on Android, will emphasize "social communications" services, according to the WSJ. Verizon is planning on carrying a Motorola device with similar hardware to the T-Mobile one, including a touch screen and slide-out keyboard.
