June 16, 2009 3:01 PM EDT
Today, shares of FedEx (NYSE: FDX) are trading modestly lower ahead of its Q4 earnings report, expected out tomorrow (June 17) before the market opens. The stock most recently traded at $51.28, down 1.2% from yesterday's close. Notably, shares have fallen about 13% since the beginning of June.

Analysts are currently looking for FedEx to report Q4 EPS of $0.52 on sales of $8.35 billion. As one of the leading mail courier's in the U.S., FedEx results are often used as an indicator for the entire economy.

An exec at FedEx's top competitor, UPS (NYSE: UPS), has just made comments related to the U.S. economy at the National Summit in Detroit. The CEO believes the recession could be over by the end of this year, but feels that rising mortgage rates and surging crude oil prices could delay this return to growth.
