Investors expect BHP to lift Anglo American offer again May 14, 2024 12:24AM

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - BHP Group is likely to sweeten its $43 billion takeover offer for Anglo American for a second time and possibly add cash, investors in both companies said on Tuesday, after the London-headquartered target rejected a higher bid.

Anglo said the improved all-share offer, up 10% from BHP's initial proposal, continued to significantly undervalue the company.

Freight train derails in Russia due to 'interference', officials say May 14, 2024 12:16AM

(Reuters) - Freight train cars derailed and a storage tank containing diesel fuel caught fire in the southern Russian region of Volgograd due to "outside interference," Russian officials said on Tuesday.

"As a result of interference by unauthorised persons into the operation of railway transport, cars of a freight train derailed at the Kotluban station," Russian Railways said in a statement on its website.

LGBTIQ people in EU face less discrimination, more violence, survey finds May 14, 2024 12:09AM

VIENNA (Reuters) - Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) people in the European Union face less discrimination but more physical or sexual attacks than three years ago, a vast survey by an EU rights body showed on Tuesday.

The online survey of more than 100,000 people who identify as LGBTIQ carried out in June, July and August of 2023 found only slight overall changes compared with the previous such survey three years... (continue reading...)


Houses damaged in Ukraine attack on Russia's Belgorod, governor says May 13, 2024 11:39PM

(Reuters) -A power line and nearly two dozen houses were damaged in Ukraine's latest air attack on the city of Belgorod, with Russia's air forces destroying 25 missiles over the broader Belgorod region, Russian officials said on Tuesday.

"There is one casualty - a woman has received a shrapnel wound to her spine," Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of the southern Russian Belgorod region which borders Ukraine, said on the Telegram messaging app.
