Why Is Jon Stewart Blasting CNBC and Cramer? A Left-Wing Conspiracy?

March 11, 2009 11:16 AM EDT

The often volatile CNBC host Jim Cramer will be on Jon Stewart's Daily Show on Thursday to defend himself from recent attacks by the comedian. Stewart has blasted Cramer and CNBC recently for their bad investment advice in the current market meltdown.

But one has to ask - Why is Jon Stewart going so hard after Cramer and CNBC? Also, why is the cat-fight getting so much buzz on left-wing sites such as the Huffington Post? (yesterday it was the top article).

CNBC is clearly an easy target, due to the fact that if you've invested any money in stocks you are likely down big. With CNBC's stock-pick-a-minute commentary the investment advice on the cable channel looks absurd in the current downturn. But we think something else might be at play here.

We think the highly-political Stewart is going after CNBC because the channel's voice in the political debate has increased significantly lately.

CNBC has been very critical of President Barack Obama. Specifically, Cramer, a Democrat, said Obama was overseeing the "largest destruction of wealth" of any President. In addition, Rick Santelli's 'rant heard round the world' was a big conservative rallying call.

What better way to combat an Obama-hating-CNBC then to destroy their credibility? Doing it through Stewart with some comic relief makes the very hostile left-wing attack look like it's all in good fun.

UPDATE 12:00PM - The Huffington Post just stepped-up their attack on Cramer. The top article now in the business section of the site is a regurgitated interview with Cramer where he talks about manipulating the market. They are proving my point for me. The left is after Cramer and CNBC!
