MetLife (NYSE: MET) shares are seeing a little pressure today amid reports that New York's top financial regulatory official has questioned federal oversight of the company.
The WSJ noted Tuesday that New York's superintendent of financial services, Benjamin Lawsky, told the Financial Stability Oversight Council last week that MetLife already has an active primary regulator carefully monitoring the conditions of the firm.
Several Congressional leaders also questioned the council as it nears the end of its review process for MetLife. The FSOC will need to determine whether or not MetLife is "systemically important," which would lead to further oversight by the Federal Reserve.
Lawsky's July 30th letter is embedded below. Shares of MetLife are down 1.4 percent.
