German Publishers File Complaint Against Amazon.com (AMZN)

Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is on watch Wednesday following reports that German book publishers have filed a complaint with the country's antitrust regulator.

According to the NY Times, the German Publishers and Booksellers Association said, Amazon’s business conduct not only affects those publishers involved, but poses a danger to all who offer e-books in Germany ... We call on the Bundeskartellamt to open an investigation and halt Amazon’s actions.

The complaint was submitted to the Bundeskartellamt.

Two months back, Amazon was said to have begun delaying shipments of books from leading German publisher Bonnier over an alleged revenue-split dispute regarding e-book sales.

German authorities affirmed receipt of the document on Tuesday and will investigate the issue. It will look into whether Amazon has a market-dominant position and, if it does, may find the company violates antitrust regulation. That process could take several weeks.

Shares of Amazon are lower in early trading.
