According to TheNextWeb.com, Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) will be hosting an event on September 6th, though nothing else was mentioned in the invite.
Recent speculation has pegged Amazon working on a new smartphone. Nothing concrete about a potential device has been leaked, so that chatter might be a little sketchy.
In addition, a new Kindle refresh might be on the docket. Having launched the Kindle Fire almost a year ago, Amazon might unveil an updated (and possibly bigger) version of the media tablet.
The date is set just one day after Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Nokia (NYSE: NOK) are expected to hold an event, with Nokia plumb set to unveil its two new Windows Phone 8 smartphones: the 'Phi' and 'Arrow.'
Shares of Amazon are about 0.7 percent lower Thursday afternoon.
