Baidu (BIDU) May Implement One Search Feature Google (GOOG) is Avoiding

December 31, 2012 9:44 AM EST
Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) may be looking for a face. Your face, specifically.

The Chinese Internet search giant is said to quietly be working on a new facial-recognition feature. At shitu.baidu.com, users can upload an image and then run a search for a face within a frame.

TheNextWeb noted today that the engine works fairly well for celebrities, but not as well when using "sub-optimal shots or lesser-know figures" (a.k.a. - everyone else).

Notably, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) voiced that it would include such a feature in its search engine due to potential "misuse" of the technology.

Shares of Baidu are up in early trading Monday.
