Apple (AAPL) Acquires Social-Map Startup, Spotsetter

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) has acquired social search engine giant, Spotsetter.

TechCrunch noted that Spotsetter offers personalized recommendations, like places to eat, where to stay, etc. The company layers social data on tops maps to point users in the right direction and give suggestions. It's likely that Apple will integrate the technology into its Apple Maps platform.

The move might be a talent acquisition, with ex-Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) engineer Stephen Tse and co-founder Johnny Lee joining Apple.

Spotsetter user a patented algorithm to pull data in from sites like Facebook (Nasdaq: FB), Twitter (NYSE: TWTR), Instagram, and others as well as review sites like Zagat, Michelin, and TripAdvisor to reinvent maps as a social experience.

Shares of Apple are up modestly Friday afternoon.
