No Comment from Apple (AAPL), China Mobile (CHL) on Market Chatter

December 5, 2013 6:31 AM EST
Have Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and China Mobile (NYSE: CHL) really inked a deal for the iPhone?

While the WSJ cites sources in saying that a deal is all but done, Bloomberg is a little more hesitant. China Mobile rep Rainie Lei commented via e-mail late Wednesday that the company is in ongoing dialogue with Apple.

Bloomberg later cited another China Mobile spokesperson, Li Jun, in saying that the company has no update on Apple iPhone discussions.

Apple spokesperson Carolyn Wu also noted that there was no update to be given from the company.

While its unlikely that China Mobile and Apple won't reach a deal, there would be a big difference between China Mobile starting to sell the iPhone in December, versus sometime in late January/early February, which would be nearly past the biggest sales season in China leading up to the Chinese New Year.

Shares of Apple are up over 1 percent in early trading Thursday.
