August 17, 2015 11:21 AM EDT

Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows 10 operating system is said to be installed on over 53 million devices since its release in late July, which is up from the 14 million installs Microsoft announced just a few days following broad availability of the platform.

StatCounter said Monday that Windows 10 now has 4.95 percent of the global desktop and tablet operating system market.

Notably, NetMarketShare reported Windows 8.1 having just over 13.1 percent of the global market through the end of last month, while Windows 7 still commands around 50 percent of the market.

It's not clear when Microsoft will issue another update on Windows 10 install metrics.

Shares of Microsoft are up modestly Monday.
