LG Display (LPL) Spills the Beans on Upcoming Apple (AAPL) iMac Resolution Quality

April 6, 2015 12:37 PM EDT

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is planning to kick its iMac display resolution game up several notches.

CNET highlighted an LG Display (NYSE: LPL) blog post today about 8K display, which it says is just about the highest resolution the human eye can discern. Notably, part of the post reads [emphasis ours]:

It has become clear that Japan is planning to launch an 8K SHV test broadcast and then promptly restructure the UHD service. Apple has also announced that they will release the ‘iMac 8K’ with a super-high resolution display later this year. Korea is also preparing to offer an 8K service demonstration at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. LG Display displayed a new beacon of the 8K era by revealing their 98-inch 8K Color Prime Ultra HDTV at CES 2015.

What's unusual is that Apple hasn't announced plans for an iMac with 8K resolution. That could hamper the relationship between LG Display and Apple given Apple's propensity to make its own product announcements.

Amid the controversy, LG Display is flat on the session after trading negative early Monday.
