Solar shares are on the rise today following new solar tariffs passed by the European Commission last week.
Over the weekend, French President Francois Hollande said that the European Union and China must work together to solve trade disputes. Having started with solar panel shipments, the implementation of excessive tariffs has expanded onto other goods.
In part, Holland said, "We need to work with China... to develop our economies but also to define rules, principles and to open new areas of cooperation...We need to resolve our trade problems with China through discussion, without advantages being given to one country over another."
Last Friday, it was also said that the U.S., China and the European Union have begun preliminary discussions for a global solar trade agreement.
Though tariffs will be different for each company, rates after August 6, 2013, will range from 37 percent to 67 percent of photovoltaic panel shipments.
Higher on the session include names like Suntech Power (NYSE: STP), Yingli Green Energy (NYSE: YGE), LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK), JA Solar (Nasdaq: JASO), and others. Notably, LDK is slated to release quarterly results before markets open on Tuesday.
