Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) is looking to cross over to the dark side.
According to PCWorld, AMD might start building chips for Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android and Chrome operating systems. The expansion will come as chips using x86 and ARM Holdings (Nasdaq: ARMH) architecture are able to run on multiple operating systems.
AMD said it is still committed to Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows 8.
No word on when the chips will start showing up in laptops or tablets using Chrome or Android.
Shares of AMD are down 1.8 percent.
