Amazon (AMZN) Should Have Five 'Can't Miss' TV Shows Out Later in FY13, Early FY14 (NFLX)

Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) is active Wednesday following reports that Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) is pushing ahead with a dialed-in lineup for its first foray into original content programming.

Reuters noted today that the following shows made the cut:
  • "Creative Galaxy"

  • "Annebots"

  • "Tumbleaf"

  • "Betas"

  • "Alpha House"

The decision comes by Amazon after it posted 14 TV pilots online for anyone to watch during the month of April, encouraging feedback in the process.

"Alpha House," a political comedy starring the impeccable John Goodman, will film another 12 episodes before release. Amazon is planning to release the five selections later this year and into 2014. All will be available to Amazon Prime members via Prime Instant Video.

Surely, Netflix uses a similar process via algorithms and consumer feedback on which shows to promote more than others, but it will be interesting to see how Amazon's effort plays out after all the shows are completed and released.

Shares of Amazon are off about 0.4 percent.
