Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) shares are lower on the session amid the company saying its latest operating system is selling as well as the prior version. Over the first six months of sales, about 100 million Windows 8 licenses have been sold, which is the same as for the first six months of Windows 7 sales.
Microsoft will also be releasing 'Windows Blue' in the coming months. The new version will keep much of the current Windows 8 platform the same, but adjust some of the elements that users are having trouble adjusting to. 'Blue' is simply an internal name for the update, which could easily be named 'Windows 8.1'.
On Yahoo! Finance today, the question was posed: "Microsoft is reversing course on major elements of its Windows 8 operating system. Do you use Windows 8?" The results as of Tuesday afternoon are somewhat suprising:
* Yes, I like it - 3523 votes, or 11 percent of the total
* No, it has too many problems - 6602 votes, or 20 percent of the total
* I'm satisfied with Windows 7 - 17278 votes, or 53 percent of the total
* I'm sticking with Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) - 5117 votes, or 16 percent of the total
Votes hint that 31 percent of respondents are using or have tried the operating system, a pretty significant number. Of course, the 53 percent that said they were satisfied with Windows 7 may have not used Windows 8 to evaluate whether it is actually better or not.
Survey results are, of course, not scientific.
Microsoft is down about 1 percent on the session.
