Arena (ARNA) Clears Final BELVIQ Marketing Hurdle; Could Make U.S. Debut in June

Arena Pharmaceuticals' (Nasdaq: ARNA) BELVIQ might make its U.S. debut sooner than expected.
The U.S. DEA put BELVIQ on Schedule 4 today, which is the final hurdle ahead of marketing the drug. (For the DEA statement, click here.)
Following tomorrow's publication in the Federal Register, the ruling will be effective within 30 days.
Arena is up over 7 percent Tuesday. The news comes as the company notified the European Medicines Agency last week that it was withdrawing the BELVIQ Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) in the European Union.
Lower on the session is peer VIVUS, Inc. (Nasdaq: VVUS).
