Tesla (TSLA) Taps Supercar Talent as New Exec.; Shares at Annual High Into Q1 Report

May 6, 2013 3:23 PM EDT
Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) is trading strong after making an announcement that it added a new member to its executive team.

Aston Martin's Chief Engineer of Vehicle Engineering, Chris Porritt, will be joining Tesla as Vice President of Vehicle Engineering. Porritt established Aston Martin's Vehicle Engineering team from the ground up and used his innovative approach as Chief Engineer for Aston Martin's One-77 supercar. Tesla noted that, "The One-77 was best known for its advanced structural design combined with cutting edge active suspension and aerodynamics. These combined to make it one of the fastest cars in the world."

Tesla is also at annual highs, hitting $58.20 earlier Monday. Recent gains are due in part to announcements from CEO Elon Musk of a new financing plan as well as implementation of an above-average customer service network. More is on the way, though. The following is from Musk's official Twitter account: "Am getting lots of questions about the big Supercharger announcement. Aiming to do that the week after next."

Tesla is expected to report quarterly results on May 8th, after markets close. As announced in April the company is looking to be profitable for the first time after getting a few more potential buyers on the fence to convert before the end of March.

Shares are up 6.4 percent.
