Buffett's Berkshire (BRK-A) Plucks Top P/C Execs from AIG (AIG) to Bolster Offerings

The larger the risk, the better the payoff. But, the more unusual the risk, the better the payoff?

Warren Buffett might be thinking so. The WSJ noted today that Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-A)(NYSE: BRK-B) has tapped several executives from large insurer AIG (NYSE: AIG). The execs are said to specialize in insuring "large and unusual risks."

Those joining Berkshire from AIG include:
  • LatAm and Caribbean P/C president Sanjay Godhwani;

  • Head of U.S. P/C operations Peter Eastwood;

  • President of AIG's Lexington unit David Bresnahan; and

  • P/C executive David Fields.

In a statement today, AIG said it had "a seasoned and very deep bench of talented property and casualty executives ready to assume broader responsibilities."

The executives are expected to help Berkshire in developing its "excess-and-surplus" line, which has been successful for AIG over the years.

Berkshire is largely known for owning the GEICO insurance brand.
