LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD) shares are higher on the session following an earlier announcement of a new contacts app for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone.
Available in the App Store, LinkedIn is hoping users will replace the traditional phone book entry with something more useful and social.
LinkedIn Contacts, as the app is named, aims to search across the web, social media, events, and even email, you and your contacts have attended to build a richer web of connections. The company says it is always up-to-date and more detailed than any other competing app out there.
Largely, LinkedIn hopes to keep your business and social life in order. You can set up automated messages (for special events, birthdays, alert people you know that you'll be in their area) or remind yourself that you needed to get in touch with someone.
For hardcore LinkedIn users, the app would surely be of benefit. Maybe it will attract other users as well?
Shares of LinkedIn are up 1.4 percent.
