Amid Boeing (NYSE: BA) getting approval for a fix on its 787 Dreamliner battery issues, some questions still linger.
Mike Sinnette, chief engineer for the 787, commented today that it is still too early to determine whether or not the issue stemmed from the battery's design, or if it was a manufacturing problem. He noted that the batteries used in the aircraft underwent thousands of hours of testing, not to mention even more hours of testing during flight.
No evidence was found from two incidents in Japan last January of any abuse to the batteries, Sinnette noted.
Comments were made during a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) hearing today. Boeing is up 1.5 percent Tuesday.
