Boeing (NYSE: BA) is lower in early trading Thursday amid speculation the the FAA might be nearing a deal to get its 787 Dreamliner back into the air.
Bloomberg noted today that approval of the Project Statement of Compliance by the FAA could happen next week, returning the 787 to service in what has become a three-month hiatus over battery issued with the new aircraft.
Estimates peg the grounding with a cost of $600 million or more to Boeing, not to mention putting a halt on some deliveries as well as several airlines having to lease aircraft in the interim. That means that cost will likely rise as airlines look to compensation from Boeing.
Neither Boeing nor the FAA commented on the matter.
Shares of Boeing are down 0.2 percent in early trading.
