Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) shares are on watch as Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) announced that Flixster has launched on Xbox Live.
According to a Microsoft Live blog post, " Flixster lets you buy and rent thousands of popular movies, check out show times at your local theater and access the latest fresh or rotten movie scores from Rotten Tomatoes...The Flixster app also gives you access to your UltraViolet movie collection on your Xbox."
Though Flixster and Netflix are somewhat different beasts, the availability of Flixster may draw some viewers away from Netflix. Even if it is just for one movie, to check local movie listings, or to scan for upcoming DVD (?) releases, that's viewing time that Netflix won't want to sacrifice.
Shares are down 0.8 percent Tuesday.
