Theravance (Nasdaq: THRX) is strongly positive Monday into an upcoming FDA advisory meeting for proposed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treatment Breo Ellipta, which is being co-developed with GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK). The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 17th, following an earlier postponement.
Breo contains about 100-micrograms of fluticasone furoate (FF), and 25-micrograms of a long-acting beta-agonist, or LABA, called vilanterol (VI), Reuters noted Monday. Briefing docs say that vilanterol was effective against COPD, but the combination of the two produced "less robust" data. The drug's safety profile was also found to be generally consistent.
The FDA briefing docs can be found here.
Theravance is up over 20 percent on strong volume.
