Former Windows Phone Engineer Treks Over to Amazon (AMZN) for 'Secret Project'

If there's any question that Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is developing a smartphone, here's a little more information refuting that fact.

According to TechCrunch, for Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone developer Charlie Kindel has moved over to Amazon to work on "something wonderful."

Kindel's LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD) profile reads: "“I’m building a new team going after a totally new area for Amazon. I’m hiring cloud and mobile developers and testers, program managers, and product managers."

Kindel also has a sense of humor, with one of his pre-Amazon confirmation posts Monday reading that he was joining Amazon to help work on the "Amazon Kindle Charlie… Amazon’s entry into the hotly contested home server market."

It's not clear what the time frame on an Amazon-run smartphone will be, but later this week Facebook is hosting an ever to debut a potential Facebook-themed Android operating system.

Shares of Amazon are up in early trading.
