Alexion (ALXN), BioMarin (BMRN) Could Offer Treatment for Sick Portfolio - Cramer

April 2, 2013 8:27 AM EDT
Alexion Pharma (Nasdaq: ALXN) and BioMarin (Nasdaq: BMRN) are ticking higher early amid a positive mention from stock sage Jim Cramer on Monday.

On Alexion, Cramer commented that the biotech is already drawing in about $1.5 billion in sales for treatments of ultra-rare blood conditions and that the company also has a pipeline of potential drugs which could bring in another $2.5 billion in sales.

Alexion received an FDA warning letter last week and the stock has seen some selling following recent quarterly data. Cramer isn't worried about the letter, stating that Alexion only needs to change how it manufactures Soliris. Shares are going for 28 times earnings with a growth rate of 33 percent, leading Cramer to say that the stock remains a bargain.

BioMarin makes enzyme replacement therapies to treat various rare genetic diseases. The company sports a market cap of $7.7 billion with no earnings. Cramer noted that BioMarin has a robust pipeline and is looking for other uses of its existing lineup. He's still a buyer of BioMarin.

Alexion is up about 0.5 percent early while BioMarin is flat.
